⚠️ Roles open and close frequently

AI training projects run in sprints and listings change quickly. If you click through and find a role is closed, look for the Subscribe button on the platform page to get an email when it reopens. Better still: complete your Mercor or Micro1 profile now. Once registered, the platform will contact you directly when a matching role opens — including ones not listed here.

What ACJ is

Applied Clinical Judgement is a referral service run by Sean Key, a Digital Health Senior Programme Manager with 29 years of NHS and private sector experience. ACJ identifies AI training roles across platforms including Mercor and Micro1, and refers qualified candidates. If you’re placed, ACJ earns a referral fee from the platform. This doesn’t affect your pay or application in any way.

What the platforms are

Mercor and Micro1 are AI staffing platforms that connect subject-matter experts with AI companies needing training data. Neither is an employer — work is freelance contract. You are paid as an independent contractor, typically weekly via Stripe or Wise. Sean is a referral partner, not an employee or representative of any platform.

How we support your application

When you apply we’ll ask for your name or email — either is fine. If you leave your email, we can support you through the application process. Strong candidates can also request a vouch: a 15-minute call with Sean, after which ACJ can add a personal recommendation to your application.

What happens after you apply

You will complete a profile and an AI interview on the platform. The platform then matches you to relevant projects. There’s no guarantee of work — matching depends on your background and current project availability. Rates shown are indicative and set by Mercor or Micro1.

Adar Hiremath is the co-founder and CTO of Mercor — the platform you will register on. This short video walks through exactly what the application process looks like: uploading your CV, the AI interview, how projects are matched to your profile, and how you track your earnings. Worth watching before you apply.

Rates quoted in this video are platform-wide maximums across all domains. Roles on this page pay $60–$150 per hour depending on the role and your background.

Angela is a medical expert currently working through Mercor. She trained and qualified in the US, where medical school debt of $200,000–$300,000 is common for physicians. Her financial situation is her own — what matters here is how she describes the work itself: the alignment with her medical training, the analytical nature of the tasks, and what it’s like to apply clinical expertise outside the clinic.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. AI companies building healthcare and clinical models need registered professionals to evaluate and improve AI outputs — and they pay well for it. Platforms such as Mercor and Micro1 connect nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and other health professionals with remote AI training and annotation contracts. Rates typically range from $50 to $150 per hour depending on role and seniority, paid weekly as an independent contractor.
No prior AI or technology experience is required. These roles exist precisely because AI cannot replicate the clinical reasoning built through years of registered professional practice. What you need is your qualification, your post-registration experience, and the ability to evaluate the accuracy and safety of AI-generated clinical content. The platforms provide onboarding; your domain expertise is the hard-to-replace part.
Yes. All roles on this page are fully remote and self-scheduled — you choose when you work, with no shift commitments or patient contact. Most healthcare professionals fit it around existing employment or bank shifts. You should check whether your NHS or private sector contract contains a secondary employment clause, and if so whether it requires approval. This is your responsibility to confirm; ACJ cannot advise on individual employment contracts.
Platforms such as Mercor use a short automated interview to verify your professional background and assess your domain knowledge. It is not a technical exam and does not require any AI expertise — it is designed to confirm your credentials and suitability for clinical AI work. The ACJ application guide (available after completing the fit check in any role card above) gives a step-by-step walkthrough of what to expect and how to present your background effectively.
AI training roles open and close frequently as project demand changes. If you click through and find a role is currently closed, look for the Subscribe button on the platform listing — this registers you for an email alert when that specific role reopens. It is also worth completing your profile on the platform even if nothing is immediately available: once registered, platforms such as Mercor and Micro1 will match and contact you when a new role opens that suits your background.
Most roles on this page are open to candidates based in the USA, Canada, the UK, and Western Europe. Where a role has a specific location requirement — for example the Registered Nurses sprint, which is limited to the UK, USA, and Canada — this is stated in the role card. Rates are typically benchmarked to a US scale and adjusted for location. Candidates on H-1B or STEM OPT visas are not currently supported by most platforms listed here.
Yes. The Professional Domain Expert (Healthcare & Medicine) role listed above is the broadest entry point for health professionals outside nursing and pharmacy, and welcomes physiotherapists, occupational therapists, paramedics, dietitians, speech and language therapists, radiographers, podiatrists, and other registered professionals. Run the quick fit check inside that role card to see whether your specific background meets the criteria. New roles for specific disciplines are also added as they become available.
Applied Clinical Judgement (ACJ) is a referral service run by Sean Key, a Digital Health Senior Programme Manager with 29 years of NHS and private sector experience. ACJ identifies AI training roles across platforms including Mercor and Micro1, and refers qualified healthcare professionals to them. When you apply through an ACJ link, Sean Key is recorded as your referrer. If you’re placed on a paid project, ACJ receives a referral fee from Mercor or Micro1. That fee has no effect on your application, your pay rate, or how you’re treated as a contractor.

Sean has spent nearly three decades running complex digital programmes across the NHS and private healthcare sector. He’s not a clinician.
