AI training work is remote, part-time and flexible — you fit it around other commitments. Six countries have a dedicated guide here (tap the gold countries on the map); almost everywhere else, global roles are open too. But which platform will take you on depends on where you live. Here’s exactly where Mercor, micro1 and Turing hire — and why some countries are blocked.

Where does each platform hire from?

AI training work is remote and, on paper, global — but each platform draws its own map. Here’s where the three we track actually recruit, straight from their own policies.

Where does Mercor hire from?

Mercor engages contractors in roughly 155 countries on its official list — broadly the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific. Roles that don’t name a location default to US, Canada, UK and EU candidates, and Mercor pays through Stripe (with Wise as a fallback for a handful of countries). Notably not on the list: Pakistan, China, Russia, Iran, North Korea and Belarus.

Where does micro1 hire from?

micro1 hires worldwide with one clear exception: a published residence-exclusion list. It describes the roles as fully remote and flexible, and pays through Deel. If you’re not on the exclusion list below, you’re eligible.

Where does Turing hire from?

Turing says it engages professionals across 140+ countries for fully-remote, flexible work, paid in USD through Deel. It doesn’t publish a single country list — but in our own live role inventory, Turing’s explicitly-targeted roles lean heavily toward India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, Bangladesh, Türkiye and Brazil. If you’re outside the US and EU, Turing is often the platform recruiting to you rather than merely allowing you.

Why can’t I work from some countries?

Three real-world constraints decide who a platform can take on — understanding them explains the greyed-out countries on the map.

Sanctions and legal restrictions

No platform can engage residents of comprehensively sanctioned jurisdictions — Russia, Iran, North Korea, Belarus, Syria and Cuba are excluded across the board, and some platforms (micro1) extend the list further. It’s a compliance rule, not a judgement on your ability.

Identity and phone verification

Platforms must verify you’re a real, unique person, usually by SMS to a local mobile. Where that service doesn’t reach, you can be blocked even for an otherwise-open role — Mercor’s phone verification, for instance, is unavailable in a large number of countries.

The platform’s payment partner

You can only be paid where the payout rail works. Mercor uses Stripe (with Wise fallback); micro1 and Turing use Deel, which reaches more of the Global South. None pay via PayPal. If the rail isn’t in your country, the role isn’t either.

Where does Mercor hire from?

micro1 hires globally except for a specific residence exclusion list it publishes on its experts page: Afghanistan, Belarus, China, Cuba, DR Congo, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Macao, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela and Yemen. Everywhere else is eligible, with payment through Deel. micro1 describes the work as fully remote and flexible.

Where does Turing hire from?

Turing says it engages professionals across 140+ countries for fully-remote, flexible work, paying in USD through Deel. It doesn’t publish a single country list, but in our live inventory Turing’s explicitly-targeted roles concentrate on India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, Bangladesh, Türkiye and Brazil — so if you’re outside the US and EU, Turing is often the platform recruiting to you.

Why can’t I work from Russia (or Iran, North Korea, Belarus, Syria, Cuba)?

These are comprehensively sanctioned jurisdictions, and no platform in this space can legally engage residents there — it’s a compliance rule, not a comment on your skills. Payment rails (Stripe, Deel, Wise) also don’t operate in these countries, so there is no lawful way to be paid even if a role were offered.

Why can’t I work from Pakistan on Mercor?

Pakistan isn’t on Mercor’s published Supported Countries list, so Mercor roles — including its ‘global’ ones — aren’t open to Pakistan-based candidates. This is a payments-and-compliance decision on Mercor’s side. The good news: Turing and micro1 both engage Pakistani contractors, and there’s a dedicated Pakistan guide on this site.

Where should I apply from if I’m in Türkiye?

All three can work, but Turing is the strongest fit — Türkiye is one of the countries Turing explicitly recruits, with roles paid in USD via Deel. Mercor lists Türkiye as supported (paid via Wise), and micro1 hires there too. Start with Turing’s targeted roles, then widen to Mercor and micro1 for global-default listings.

Is AI training work part-time, and is it really remote?

Yes to both. These are freelance, fully-remote contractor roles you fit around other commitments — most people work a flexible block of a few hours that overlaps US Pacific time. micro1 and Turing both describe the work as flexible remote; there are no fixed shifts, but projects can pause at short notice, so most people treat it as part-time income alongside something stable.
