The pattern that works for many here is the pre-dawn block — sleep early, work 3:30–7:30am, then have a normal day. When the US is on summer time (PDT), both blocks shift an hour earlier.

Those figures are what listings and 2026 contractor reviews show — and they are US-anchored. How they translate to you depends on the platform, because each localises differently. Mercor: roles with a posted hourly rate pay that rate wherever you are; roles with a negotiated band tend to land in the lower half of it from lower-cost countries. micro1: you set your own rate, but it must be “competitive for your skill level” — and contractor reviews report US/UK-based professionals landing higher rates for similar work, so regional pricing pressure is real. Turing: explicitly benchmarks compensation to your local market — expect the largest adjustment of the three.
Our working estimate for India: banded and negotiated offers commonly land 30–50% below the US top of band, while posted-rate roles pay as posted — and even the adjusted figures are multiples of typical Indian professional hourly earnings, paid weekly in USD. Specialist clinicians and advocates regularly clear the higher bands.

Common questions
Can I work a 4-hour PST overlap from India?
Yes, but honestly: India sits in the hardest overlap band. On Indian Standard Time (UTC+5:30) the early PST block (9am–1pm PST) runs 10:30pm–2:30am IST — a night shift — and the late block (2pm–6pm PST) runs 3:30am–7:30am IST, a pre-dawn start. There is no comfortable option, only a choice between them. Many India-based contractors prefer the pre-dawn block: sleep early, start before sunrise, finish as the day begins. Are there medical AI training jobs open to India? (I’m a doctor, nurse or medical coder)
Yes — at our last check, 50 of the 74 live medical and clinical roles were open to India (26 on micro1, 15 on Mercor, 9 on Turing), and nearly all are medical reviewer and evaluation work: assessing AI-generated clinical content for accuracy and safety. The 24 you can’t apply for are all restricted to US-based clinicians — a licensing and regulation issue, not a judgement on Indian qualifications. I was preparing for PLAB and a UK move — is AI training work an alternative?
Not an alternative to a medical career — and we won’t pretend it is. But it may be the most useful bridge available right now. The UK’s Medical Training (Prioritisation) Act 2026, in force since March 2026, gives UK, Irish and EEA graduates priority for NHS training posts, and the GMC is withdrawing several international PLAB 1 sittings — including Chennai — from 2027. Registration via PLAB (now UKMLA-aligned) remains possible, but the path into training has narrowed sharply. While you re-plan — Australia’s AMC route (a PLAB pass can support Competent Authority Pathway exemptions), the USMLE, or NEET PG at home — AI clinical-review work lets you earn from US AI labs using the medical knowledge you already have, part-time around exam prep, with 50 medical roles currently open to India. Think of it as funding the next exam, not replacing the career.
Which AI training platforms accept candidates from India?

Turing engages contractors in around 150 countries including India, paying through Deel. micro1 publishes no country list but lists 217 India-eligible roles here; eligibility is confirmed per role at application. How do the platforms pay in India?
Contracts are in US dollars, typically paid weekly. Mercor pays via Stripe Connect (settling to Indian bank accounts), with Wise as fallback. Turing pays through Deel, which supports local INR bank transfer, Payoneer, Wise and other withdrawal options. micro1 processes payment through its platform after identity verification. As freelance income in India, earnings are taxable as professional income — talk to a CA about advance tax and (where turnover qualifies) presumptive taxation under 44ADA.
Are there roles in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and other Indian languages?
Yes. At our last inventory check there were live India-eligible roles working in Hindi (8), Tamil (4), Telugu (4), Bengali (3), Punjabi (3) and Malayalam (3), with occasional Marathi, Kannada, Urdu and Gujarati openings. These are native-speaker roles — evaluating and improving AI in your language — but a working command of English is still required, as instructions, feedback and platform communication are in English.
How much can I actually earn from India?
Honestly: it depends on which platform and role type. US-anchored listings run $15–$30/hr for general evaluation, $25–$60 for graduate domains, and $50–$150+ for specialist medical, legal and engineering work. From India, expect Turing offers to track local benchmarks, micro1 self-set rates to face regional pricing pressure, and Mercor posted-rate roles to pay exactly as posted — banded roles commonly land 30–50% below the US top of band. Is this a permanent job or freelance work?
Freelance contracting, not employment — no benefits, no guaranteed hours, projects can pause at short notice. Pay is reliable and usually weekly, and you choose your 4-hour block. In practice it is part-time, work-from-home contracting — the 4-hour block is the whole daily commitment for most people, which is why so many run it alongside a job, studies or family.
